cultivation of peach and apricot

Many summer residents of the middle lane dream of peaches and apricots. And if you decide to register these southerners in your area, you need to remember about a number of nuances, considering that it will be much easier to achieve a good harvest.

In the middle lane, these southern plants often freeze flower buds, which is associated with the early onset of flowering (this problem is especially relevant for apricots, which periodically fall under spring return frosts). Therefore, give preference to plants of late varieties.

COMFORTABLE CONDITIONS FOR PEACHES AND APRICOTS

Peach and apricot planting material is mostly grown on seed rootstocks. This means that in the future you will get fairly tall trees with a spreading crown. Therefore, the distance to neighboring crops should be at least 4 m. Even slight shading at a young age can significantly affect the development of peaches and apricots.

Apricot can grow in both sandy and sandy loam soil, but for peach it is better to choose a place with sandy loam or light and medium loam. Groundwater should not be closer than 2 m from the soil surface.

Peach and apricot can be planted both in spring (before the buds swell) and in autumn (late September-early October). In the latter case, as a rule, a longer period with favorable planting conditions. In addition, the problem of soil moisture deficiency rarely appears in the fall, which contributes to good plant survival. But in a harsh winter, there is a risk of the death of a young tree.

In spring, the optimal planting time may be just a few weeks, when the seedlings begin to vegetate. However, we are moving away from the problem of the impact of winter conditions on seedlings.

Before planting, dig the soil well, freeing it from weeds. Take care of drainage: fill the bottom of the hole with small stones, gravel, bricks. If the soil is poor, then a month before planting, apply organic fertilizers (humus, compost – 6-8 kg per planting hole) and mineral fertilizers (150-200 g of phosphorus and 100-200 g of potash fertilizers).

Immediately after planting (in spring or autumn), watering is required at the rate of 15-20 liters per seedling. In spring it should be repeated at least 2 times with an interval of 5-7 days.

If you have a small plot of land, remember that a peach is a self-fertile crop, that is, one tree of one variety is enough to produce a crop. Apricots need a pollinator for good fruit set. And if apricots do not grow in your area, you will have to plant at least two plants of different varieties.

SEEDS SHOULD BE IN THE PERIOD OF IMMUNITY AT EVERY TIME OF PLANTING – IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO LOAD FLOWER LEAVES OR FLOWER PLANTS!

Features: watering In hot and dry weather, peaches and apricots should be watered every 10 days (2 buckets of water per plant). Moisture is especially needed during fruiting. But do not overdo it: immediately a large amount of water will lead to cracking of the fruit.

The problem of drought can be partially solved by using mulch in the post-stem vertebrae with a layer of 8-10 cm.Flax fire, sawdust (preferably non-coniferous species), rotten compost and humus are suitable for this purpose.

Nitrogen fertilizers (ammonium nitrate or urea) are applied at the beginning of the season. I advise you to divide the recommended dose (indicated in the instructions) into two equal parts and put one of them into the hollow in the soil after the leaves bloom, and the rest – 2 weeks after flowering (up to 10 g per 1 mXNUMX) m at a time). Leaf feeding (spraying) with complexes containing a set of macro- and microelements is also effective. During the flowering period, give preference to preparations containing boron (for good setting), and in the period of fruit growth, emphasize a higher content of potassium and calcium. From the second half of summer, use fertilizers with a minimum nitrogen level.
