HOW TO CARE FOR A CHERRY SUMMER?

Cherries: care in the middle of summer

The cherry ripens in July. In addition to collecting the long-awaited harvest, do not forget to care for trees.

O WATERING CHERRY

In the middle of summer, dry, hot weather often prevails. And cherries can experience a sharp deficiency in moisture, which is especially important for the culture during the active growth of the shoots. Water at the rate of 3-4 buckets per tree to moisten the soil to a depth of 40 cm.Stop water procedures 2-3 weeks before harvesting: the berries may crack due to excess moisture, and the flesh will begin to deteriorate. But after fruiting, watering, if there is a drought, resume.

COLLECTION CROP

Cherries do not ripen when removed from the tree. Therefore, it should not be cut in advance in the hope that fruit will arrive during storage, such as pears or apples. But also, do not leave the fruit on the tree to overripe. They can rot and mummify very quickly. The reason is fungal anthracnose (and the more ripe the cherry, the greater the risk of getting sick). Harvest in 2-3 stages as it matures.

LET’S SAVE THE CROWN

After harvest, the task is to keep healthy leaves on the cherries until autumn, which “work” in arranging flower buds for the next year.

And for this, treat the crowns with a fungicide (Topsin-M. Raek, Pennkoceb) from coccyx, monilial burn, fruit rot. Aphids can also do a lot of damage: they draw sap from the leaves, moreover, fungi settle in its secretions, which cause the shoots to die. Use an insecticide against aphids (Aktara, Fufanon). The tank mixture will help save time both from pests and diseases: for example, Aktara + Skor or BI-58 + Horus.

DO YOU NEED TRIMMING CHERRY IN SUMMER?

Cherries are traditionally pruned in early spring. But you will have to face the secateurs in the summer, when the trees bear fruit. Cut (completely or to healthy wood) dry and diseased branches. Remove root growth, swirling tops (powerful fattening shoots) and overlapping branches.

EXPRESS COUNCIL ALEXANDER GORNY, KAND. TEACHINGS OF CX:

When gardeners harvest cherries a few days before they are fully ripe, the stalk, firmly attached to the fruit, is usually separated with the fruit and the fruit. At the same time, fruit formations are injured, which reduces next year’s harvest. Therefore, I advise you to cut off the fruit with a peduncle by 2/3 of its length with scissors. To protect the crop from birds, hang a few cut bulbs in the crown – until they are dry, their phytoncides will scare away the birds well.
